The Greek island of Mykonos has it all!!!

Beautiful winding pathways filled with bougainvillea, quaint shops and cafes, spectacular beaches, warm and welcoming people, extraordinary cuisine, and unparalleled nightlife. The list of things Mykonos has to offer is endless. This island has it all!

Stay

Mykonos Grand Hotel & Resort on Ayios Yiannis beach. From the moment you enter it seems that the sole purpose of the staff at Mykonos Grand is to cater to every guests every wish.  Since it’s been over four years since our last trip to this Greek island, I did some research on the top rated hotels on the island currently. Mykonos Grand Hotel kept popping up and now I know why. Mykonos Grand offers a true five star luxury experience. The hotel manager personally greeted us upon arrival, sat with us to chat about the hotel and restaurant/entertainment options during our stay.

The last time we were in Mykonos we stayed at Mykonos Blu Hotel, which I also absolutely love. Not only is it super cool and beautiful but Mykonos Blu is located on Psarou beach, which is one of the top beaches on the island. One other thing about Mykonos Blu is that they have one of the best breakfast buffet’s I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing. When you force yourself to get up after partying all night at the clubs, just to not miss out on this breakfast, you know its good!

Eat

Okay, let’s talk about the food in Mykonos. We did not have one mediocre meal the entire week we were on this island. Granted, most of our meals were at well known eateries that cater to the wealthy tourists on the island. One of our favorite meals though, was at this hidden little gem of a family run restaurant. We would have never found this place if it weren’t for my friend Selim, who has been spending every summer in Mykonos for as many years as we can remember. He said “do you guys want a real, home cooked Greek meal”?  To Maereio is the name of the place and don’t forget it otherwise you may never find it. This is authentic, no frills, Greek food. It’s run by a mother and her two sons. she does the cooking and they tend the bar and serve the food. I say small because there aren’t many tables so seating is limited. But I will use the word BIG when describing the food and all the magnificent flavors of this “greek home cooking” eatery.

Play

Beaches During the day you lounge at one of the many beautiful Mykonos beaches. Depending on where you are staying, you may have your own wonderful beach to sunbathe on. Plenty of hotels are right on the beach giving you private access. Even if you do have a great beach at your hotel or rental, you must still venture out and experience at least a few of the countless fabulous beaches this island has to offer. This list of beaches are just a few of the ones I’ve been to and can highly recommend. Psarou (which contains one of the hottest beach clubs on the island, Namos).  Another beautiful and popular beach is Paraga beach. Paraga beach is now home to the most recent beach club addition to hit the Mykonos scene, Scorpios. We had a fabulous last night on the island at Scorpios. We dined family style in the outdoor restaurant with friends and all of our kids. We danced the night away on the beach among all the beautiful people, young and old. It was such a great night!!

Shopping The old town of Mykonos is absolutely adorable and picturesque in every way. Strolling around downtown, there is so much to look at. The shopping is top notch. From dresses and cover ups to fabulous one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces, it’s hard to not find things you love and want to bring home. Not only is the clothing, shoes, and jewelry to die for but their home furnishings and accessories are obviously hand picked by some pretty discerning buyers. We found so many great and unique pieces for our home. It’s always fun to find treasures while traveling and Mykonos shops are full of treasures big and small.
